MISSION

To support independant living for and by people with disabilities and to facilitate change within the community for the inclusion of all persons.

HISTORY

With the support of a diverse and disparate group of community members Southwest Center for Independence was founded on February 6, 1990. These concerned citizens rose to the challenge by the state of Colorado to form an independent living center that would be interdependent by and for persons with disabilities. Numerous persons with both developmental and and acquired disabilities came together in a passionate effort to support one another. They attracted the support of family and friends that expanded to the most influential members of the community. The center that was formed would support these individuals in the effort to be recognized as valuable and productive members of society.
